Understanding Annuity Payouts
Payout Types
- Life Annuity: Payments continue for life. Higher risk if you die early, but protection against longevity.
- Fixed Period: Guaranteed payments for set years. Payments go to beneficiaries if you die early.
- Life with Period Certain: Life payments with guaranteed minimum period. Best of both worlds.
Joint & Survivor
Joint life annuities continue payments to your spouse after your death. In exchange, initial payments are reduced because the insurer expects to pay longer.
Common Options:
- 100% to survivor: Largest reduction
- 67% to survivor: Medium reduction
- 50% to survivor: Smallest reduction
