Understanding Annuity Payouts

Payout Types

  • Life Annuity: Payments continue for life. Higher risk if you die early, but protection against longevity.
  • Fixed Period: Guaranteed payments for set years. Payments go to beneficiaries if you die early.
  • Life with Period Certain: Life payments with guaranteed minimum period. Best of both worlds.

Joint & Survivor

Joint life annuities continue payments to your spouse after your death. In exchange, initial payments are reduced because the insurer expects to pay longer.

Common Options:

  • 100% to survivor: Largest reduction
  • 67% to survivor: Medium reduction
  • 50% to survivor: Smallest reduction
